Birds of a feather

”M-my name is.. uh,” she felt her breath miss as he strode forth, sitting closer of her. She quickly shifted her eyes around, trying not to make it seem like she was staring.. then.. hesitantly, she looked back up at him, not really approving of the way he handled his Familiar. She went on.. ”..name is Tess. Uhm, my friend here is Jewel. She’s a Hummingbird,” she gestured towards the small blur over her head. Jewel suddenly came in focus as she hovered closer of the tom-mark’s face.
”What’s that on your face?” she asked boldly. Tess’ face screwing into a frightened expression. Was Jewel trying to pick up a fight?! Of course, Tess had yet to really look the Felmark in the eyes, so she missed the sight of his artifact fashioned from his antlers to his forehead.


The bird asked boldly. Donovan raised an eyebrow at her before smirking. 'Quite the bold one, ha.' "It's my artifact, it's some sort of stone that looks like a cat's eye. I love it quite a lot, very different and unique." he purred. The Woodpecker hopped towards the end of the tom's antlers and observed the bird with great interest. Donovan glanced up at his Familiar and smirked even further. 'He's got a crush.'

Me and eliza1star are currently roleplaying a scene where Tess meets Donovan for the first time. I'm enjoying it a lot and this particular scene brought a glint of mischief to my eyes. 

Q) Can birds have mates?
A) Nope. The bond a familiar has with its felmark partner is so strong, the bird would be unable to maintain any other relationship. Felmark, however, can have mates.

Of course I know, and before anyone asks, it wasn't clearly saying that Peter, Donovan's Familiar, even blushed or DOES for a fact have a crush on Jewel, Tess' Familiar. But the thought of him developing such feelings for a tiny bird like the HummingBird is quite endearing to me, especially since I'm the romantic type. I am well aware that Familiars cannot mate or maintain any kind of relationship because of the bond they share with their Felmark. Though, I don't believe it would be impossible for them to repress the feeling completely. They could still feel affection towards another being, or attraction without really partaking in any serious relationship.

I respect the bond they have with their Felmark. Still, the thought of a bird crushing hard another, knowing that their affection will never succeed is quite.. really endearing. Just.. ugh so dramatic and romantic. Aah~ My inner school girl just squealed <3 excuse me while I go to my corner and read my 'hopeless romantic' poems out loud~
